These mats are hand woven from reeds that are collected locally. It is a tradition as old as time to weave mats such as these for true african homes. They are brightened with a modern eco-friendly twist... plastic bags or sweet wrappers entwined with the reeds to create a mat that is durable as well as appealing to the eyes. Many of the older ladies in rural communities may not have the skills to make 'modern' crafts - but they are still incredibly adept at these funky, lightweight grass mats, which look great on a lounge floor or act as a perfect doormat.
